You Never Know
You never know who is going to need your help at Kairos.
Our volunteers are special people. Many come in and pitch in, asking nothing in return. They love doing what they do because they love giving to the community and helping people.
Clare* is one of these people. Recently arrived from overseas, she travels from outside of the city to do her part in making Kairos great at what we do.
One day recently, after Clare had finished her shift, she looked at the shelves and asked, “Do you mind if I take something?”
As Clare shared her own story, we discovered that she herself was unemployed. “I love being here,” she said. “Working here, helping out, does more for me and my well-being than paid employment could.”
“But I just need some help with some food.”
We believe in looking after people, including the people who look after people. Even with our volunteers, you never know if someone needs something or not. We realise that different people have different needs and were happy to help Clare with hers.
