Is there such a thing as too much chocolate?
Part of our work here at Kairos is receiving bulk deliveries from food suppliers, that we then repackage for either the Free Store or for re-distribution to local food banks.
One recent bulk donation contained multiple 15 kilo bags of baking chocolate. The average household pack of baking chocolate is only about 225 grams. We found ourselves asking a question most of us thought we would never have to ask.
What do you do when you have too much chocolate?
Amanda, one of our clever volunteers, came up with a solution.
Enter The Good Bitches (no, we’re not being cheeky - that’s actually what they’re called!). The Good Bitches is a nationwide organisation of people who love to bake and who love community. GB volunteers bake yummy treats for people who are going through a rough time. What better use for an overload of chocolate?
Amanda repackaged the chocolate to distribute to GB groups in Christchurch and Oamaru. And just look what they got up to with it!

I just wanted to email and thank Kairos Food Rescue for the HUGE bag of Cadbury chocolate buttons we received at the end of April! Amanda was kind enough to arrange for our Gore-Balclutha Chapter of Good Bitches Baking to receive this chocolate and it has been very much appreciated by our lovely bakers down here!
Visit The Good Bitches website to learn more about what they do or to show them some love!
